Andrews Inconsistent on Haneef's Departure

Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews has made conflicting statements about Dr Mohamed Haneef's departure from Australia.

On ABC TV's Insiders program, Mr Andrews said

“Dr Haneef has been protesting his innocence, there's an appeal on foot, normally people stay around to see the outcome of their appeal."

This is at odds with his statement to reporters in Melbourne on 28-July, when he said

"… he (Haneef) should depart Australia”

The government has been at pains to show it is "tough on terror", but having been denied a judicial trial, is now seeking "trial-by-media".
